The kids got the cars. I got the candle company.

What started as a family project around our kitchen table has grown into a collection of funny things, meaningful things and little things designed to make hard days brighter.

It started with leftover fragrance oils and a first-car goal.

Samantha Cade Collection started in the summer of 2019, almost by accident.

We were working on another family business and ended up with a pile of leftover fragrance oil samples. When we realized the same oils could be used in candles and bath products, our 15-year-old daughter had an idea: maybe she could make candles to earn money toward her first car.

So we did what any reasonable family with no candle-making experience would do. We spent the next several months testing jars, wicks, wax and scents around the kitchen table.

By the holidays, we were ready.

What began with teacher gifts and Facebook orders quickly turned into a real little business. There were local deliveries, vendor events, a large school staff order, and custom candles for local businesses, artists and other organizations.

And eventually, there was a first car.

Why Samantha Cade?

The name came from our kids' middle names.

When our daughter reached her goal, her younger brother was next. We told him he needed to find his own way to work toward a car too. He could start something different or take his turn with candles.

He chose candles.

So he learned the vendor-show routine, helped keep the business going, and eventually reached his goal too.

Both kids got the cars.

Then they did the terribly inconvenient thing children tend to do.

They grew up.

And somehow, I still had the candle company.

Once both kids left for college, the original reason Samantha Cade existed had pretty much run its course.

For a while, I wasn't sure that meant the business should keep going.

But I also realized something.

I wasn't finished making things.

Over the years, I had done most of the behind-the-scenes work anyway: building the website, researching products, managing inventory, creating labels and packaging, photographing products, designing graphics, running social media and figuring out how to turn an idea into something someone might actually want to give or keep.

Creating things had become mine too.

So instead of closing Samantha Cade, I decided to let it grow up.

More than candles now.

Today, Samantha Cade Collection is based in Prosper, Texas, and the candles are still very much here. They just have some new company.

You'll find hand-poured candles, funny shirts, ceramic and wooden magnets, stickers, personalized cutting boards, ornaments, keepsakes and gifts that range from heartfelt to slightly inappropriate.

Because real life needs both.

Some days call for something meaningful enough to keep for years.

Some days call for a candle, a sarcastic magnet and being left alone.

I think there's room for all of it.

That's why I now organize Samantha Cade less around what the product is and more around what you need from it:

Funny shirts, magnets, stickers and little things that say what you were already thinking.

Make Home Feel Good
Hand-poured candles and small comforts that make staying home feel like a pretty good plan.

Make It Mean Something
Personalized cutting boards, ornaments, keepsakes and gifts made for a person, not just a checkout.

Made, painted, printed + overthought by real people.

Not every Samantha Cade product is made the same way.

Some start at my laser. Some are painted or finished by hand. Candles are poured in small batches. Some designs are printed one at a time, and select apparel and other products are produced with trusted production partners so I can offer things I couldn't reasonably make myself.

But they all start with the same question:

Would I actually want to give this to someone, keep it myself, or send it to a friend who needs it?

If the answer is no, it probably doesn't belong here.

The point of all of it.

Samantha Cade started as a way to help my kids work toward something they wanted.

I'm keeping it because I still believe small things can matter.

A ridiculous sticker can make someone laugh on a terrible day.

A candle can change the mood of a room.

A personalized ornament can become the thing someone pulls out every December for the next twenty years.

A gift can say I know you better than a card ever could.

That's what I want Samantha Cade to be now.

Small things with a reason for existing.
Things that make people laugh, feel seen, feel remembered, or simply feel a little lighter.
